College Prep Has a Successful Summer!

Our group of college prep students finished off a very successful summer in getting ready for their upcoming first semesters as college students! Check out students Jaquasha Footman and Stephanie Gomez explaining it in their own words.

 

Stephanie Gomez:

When I first came to Grace Outreach, I had been out of school for 4 years. I was 2 months pregnant and I wanted to finish that chapter in my life before having my baby. But to be honest I was not very confident in myself that I would actually obtain my GED. At GO I found that the teachers truly care about you succeeding. I was learning so much everyday and for once I actually looked forward to going to school every day. It was inspiring to feel so productive.

I was only at GO for 3 months before taking the GED and I was so proud of myself when I passed. But I was not planning on going further with my education anytime soon. However when my son was only 4 months old I decided to return to GO and join the College Prep program. I was intimidated by the idea of college but the instructor, Carol, has been so supportive and has made college seem possible for me.

Now I will be attending my freshman year at Hostos this fall. I am amazed at how far I’ve come and am so thankful to GO for giving me the positive outlook I now have.

 

Jaquasha Footman:

 

Enrolling myself into Grace Outreach was the best decision I could have ever made. Not only did I receive my GED from their day program, but I'm also attending College Prep classes as we speak. Getting ready for college life and being prepared to face it hands on gives me the courage to face anything life throws my way. Before GO College Prep I always had the mindset that college wasn't for me and after finishing up with my GED the work field was going to be my next step. Realizing that even if working was what I had in mind, what kind of job would I get? I need a career and the only way I can achieve that is by going to college and getting a degree in a field that would pursue my career choice. College Prep at G O is just that, the name speaks for itself preparing you for college. It's like that extra boost to start you on your way, and with a faculty and staff so helpful I was going to take all the advice and help I can get. Thanks to College Prep I'm now enrolled in college this fall.
